My ABCs of Inspiration: Y is for You

You, as in "you can inspire yourself!"  Self awareness is so important in writing.  It is also one of the most difficult things to achieve.

Do you know yourself well enough to know what style of writing works for you?  I don't yet.
Do you have a distinct writing voice that is "you"?  I don't  yet.
Do you have something uniquely you that you want to convey in your writing?  I don't yet.
What is it you want to say to the world?  Hmmmm...

Once you have answers to these questions, you can use yourself as inspiration!  Use your voice.  Use your motivation.  Use your message.  Use the very reason you started writing in the first place.

Writer, know thyself!

  1. Brilliant! I am not sure what writing style works for me... I have my voice but need to make it more distinct I think and I hope that I manage to convey 'me' in all my stories but generally I just want to make the world smile for a little bit!

    Thanks Megan!!!!

  2. Hi Megan,

You make a very good point. I've enjoyed reading these each day of #PiBoIdMo. Thanks.
Can't wait to zee what you come up with tomorrow.

  3. Oy, jeesh.. I obviously can't use myself as inspiration just yet! Still figuring those things out.. :-)

  4. Do know my own style and the type of writing that is 'mine', but finding the time to write is the problem, even though I'm retired, so I admire a mum who looks after children and writes as well!

  5. I found my style and voice but I am still an evolving WIP. Great post as usual Megan.

  6. Thanks for all the lovely words today, ladies! I blush!

  7. Love this post. Apparently I've found myself. :D

  8. I'm starting to see a slight trend in what gets me going. Still discovering, of course, but once in a while sparks do fly.
