"My Favorite Picture Book" Blogfest!!

So, I'm a picture book person.  I not only love writing them, I LOVE reading them.  For many of us, picture books started our love of reading.  They ignited our imaginations, they opened up new worlds both real and not-so-realish, they encouraged, they empowered, they comforted, they became a part of us.

In celebration of this unique art form that combines two art forms (writing and illustrating), I wanted to host a blogfest!  On Thursday, March 10th - three weeks from today - I challenge you to blog about your favorite picture book.  It can be what your favorite was as a child or what your favorite is as a parent, as a writer, as a teacher.  Tell us about it!  What made (or makes) you love it?  Tell us in two sentences or fifteen paragraphs.  Be creative or plain.  Just celebrate picture books with me!  Sign up in the widget below, grab my sad attempt at a button above, post on March 10th, and enjoy reading all the other posts as well!

  9. Can you really "read" a picture book? I mean you wouldn't say you "read" a painting, right?

  10. Glad you joined in Shannon & Catherine! Fun!

Alison - I hope you'll join us too (I won't hold you to the rule of just one!)

Mutt - Picture books have text in them probably 95% of the time. It is just a term for the type of book that has art on every page along with the text (i.e. "Where the Wild Things Are", "Cat in the Hat", "Skippyjon Jones"). So, yep, reading required! : )

  11. What a cool idea for a blogfest.

My kids are starting to outgrow picture books. The only ones my daughter and I read right now are staring the Disney Princesses. :D

I couldn't even choose a favorite. There are sooooo many. :D

  15. Megan,

What a great idea. I became an illustrator because of all the beautiful pics I saw as a kid. I always wanted draw and paint as well as the fantastic picture book illustrators.

Well my dream came true when I studied art and acquired my BFA in illustration.

My next dream was to write a book to illustrate. And I finally did two years ago. Of course, said book is still in edits. AMBER AND THE WHISPERING WILLOWS is a m/g fantasy. I want to simplify it to a picture book one of these days. I have already wrote a short story about it that can easily translate to a picture book, Now i have to do all the color illustrations. (i did sepia/b&w for chapter illustrations)

Many of my blog friends don't know I illustrate. If you didn't, please check out "My illustrations" at the top of my blog.

I would love to do your blogfest, but I will be out of town and with the crusaders things, I just don't have enough time.

    Have fun....

    Michael
